John Warren Oakes
John Warren Oakes was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1941. He studied art and design with the Art Instruction School of Minneapolis. At 21, he received a scholarship to the Art Students League of New York A.B. degree from Western Kentucky University. Attended University of Iowa receiving the M.A. and M.F.A. Degrees from the School of Art. In 1974, he received the C.A.A. From Harvard University. He is Professor Emeritus of Art at Western Kentucky University where he taught art for 47 years. Oakes has exhibited nationally and internationally in 484 exhibitions and 51 one-man shows. He has won 35 prizes for his paintings, prints, drawings and creative photography Gallery Representation: Insel Gallery / New York, New York.
